The red chair arrived at the Orleans Waterfront Inn on April 20th. It had made its journey from Gabriel’s Inn in Provincetown to the Orleans Town Landing, the home of the beautiful Victorian Structure known as the Orleans Inn. Built in 1875 for Sea Captain Aaron Snow, wife Mary and their seven children who lived and worked from the house selling goods on the docks.
Ed and Laurie Maas with the help of their eight children currently run the Mansion as an Inn and Restaurant. The Inn was purchased and renovated in 1996 by the family and with love and hard work it is thriving once again. What a wonderful stopping ground for Beth Colts’ Red Chair to soak in the rich scenery and history that the wonderful town of Orleans has to offer. The chair was embraced with warm hospitality as it entered the building and we were all excited to greet it.
The red chair enjoyed a beautiful afternoon gazing out the Dining Room window onto the beautiful Orleans Town Cove. The sunshine felt so good peeking through the slats of its wooden frame. Now it knows why the other chairs in the room like to hang out here as well.

Jonathan Young Windmill Park next door to the Inn has been authentically restored by volunteers working with the Orleans Historical Society. It was built in the early 1700’s in South Orleans. In 1839 it was moved to overlook Town Cove. The windmill has seen many happy celebrations, it’s a popular spot for outdoor wedding ceremonies and for picnics on a nice day.
Next door is Goose Hummock, a popular outdoor sporting goods store which offers Kayak rentals and Fly Fishing lessons on the Cove.
Rock Harbor in Orleans is a “sight to be seen” with all its natural beauty. It’s the best place to catch a magnificent sunset.
We must say the red chair’s stay at the Inn and in Orleans feels like a “Hole in One”! We had a great time showing the chair all the wonderful attractions that the town of Orleans has to offer. On April 21st we bid our farewell to our special guest and sent it on its way to the Whalewalk Inn and Spa in Eastham. We’re so grateful to have received this wonderful opportunity and wish the chair and everyone involved our very best.
